Anita Baker has written some of the greatest music of our time.
From “Giving You The Best That I’ve Got” to “Caught Up In The Rapture,” to “I Apologize,” the Ohio native brought her own sultry brand of class and sophistication to R&B and soul.
And while her best-known track might be “Sweet Love” — which frequently gets covered by none other than Beyoncé during her live concerts — Anita Baker has a musical repertoire that has lasted for generations.
Recently, too, she won the battle of a lifetime to call her creations her own. In September 2021, Vibe reported that the songstress — who, like many artists of her time, signed a predatory record deal that forced her to give up the rights to both her songs and her likeness — finally got the rights to her masters, and more, back, since she’d “outlived” her contracts (Simply put: contracts can only last for a certain number of years — unless the words “in perpetuity” are in the contract — and Baker’s contracts had all expired, i.e. she “outlived” them, by the time she wanted her rights back).
In support of this fight, Baker’s fans refused to stream her music until she earned back her masters — and when she finally got them back, she tweeted that she was “free from the plantation.”
During her career, Anita Baker obtained a $40 million net worth, per Celebrity Net Worth.
And now, she’s passed that incomparable legacy down to her two grown sons. Let’s take a look at how her two sons are living up to the family name.

Walter Bridgforth
Walter Bridgforth — Anita Baker’s older son — plays the keyboards in her band. But he’s much more than just his mom’s musician. According to his LinkedIn page, he most recently served as an audio engineer for the Avalon in Hollywood, CA, where he stayed for four years. In the most recent past, too, he’s worked for such companies as Monroe, Sound Investment, and ZenMuse. Reportedly, too.
He studied Audiovisual Communications Technologies/Technicians at Berklee College of Music.
Edward Bridgforth
According to I Love Old School Music, Edward Carlton Bridgforth — Anita Baker’s younger son — plays guitar for Anita Baker’s band. He was born in 1994, a year after his elder brother, Walter, was born. His birth was announced in Jet Magazine — but aside from his LinkedIn page revealing that he’s a graduate of Columbia College in Chicago, he keeps a low profile and doesn’t have any other social media pages.
