The ultimate life hack is when your passion and purpose can fund a life that surpasses your wildest dreams.
Now that Candiss Pitts has mastered this hack, she is helping others do the same as the founder of The Royal Shaman, a spiritual advising business that caters to CEOs and entrepreneurs who are the cream of the crop.
Upon graduating college, Pitts revealed on CNBC that she worked in direct sales and was so good at her job that she landed in the top two percent of the consultants at her company — unlocking “free trips, designer handbags, and mansion parties.” Yet, as an avid dreamer, she still knew that there was more out there for her.
“As a 24-year-old mother from a small town in West Virginia, it was more than I ever dreamed of,” she wrote in an excerpt on CNBC. “Still, I had this nagging feeling that something was missing. I started asking myself: ‘Who am I? What am I here to do? Am I living my purpose?’”
It was this mindset that ultimately led Pitts to the idea of launching The Royal Shaman and the rest is history.
What Is A Shaman?
From a very early age, Pitts was aware of the power that she had to see and know things not necessarily accessible to the average person.
“I’ve always knew I had a gift,” she recalled. “A way of knowing and seeing things other people can’t. After feeling disconnected from my sales career, I decided to follow my intuition.”
In 2013, she quit her job to embark on a spiritual journey, ultimately landing in South Africa where she received the training to become a shaman, a “healer” who uses various mediums to bridge the gap between the physical and non-physical realms.
The Royal Shaman
After taking on several jobs to get by during the journey to becoming a shaman and spending over $100,000 to fulfill the calling, Pitts launched The Royal Shaman in 2018. In her post for CNBC, she noted that there is a distinct difference between spiritual advising and life coaching.
“Life coaches typically focus on personal growth and success, but I help my clients expand and uplift their consciousness on a more spiritual level,” the 33-year-old explained. “This is an ancient and esteemed practice – even the Dalai Lama has a ‘spirit advisor.’”
Starting out, her sessions were a little under $200, an amount that she landed on after conducting research on the market price within the field. By sharing her own spiritual journey via the Facebook page that she created, clients were drawn into the work that she was doing.
After a successful start, the decision to expand her services led Pitts to launch her first group program, which allowed members access to weekly group coaching calls for $97 a month. Despite enrolling two dozen students, she only managed to bring in about $17,000 for the year and still had to take other jobs to stay afloat.
Yesterday's Price Is Not Today's Price
If trusting the journey was a person, it might just be Pitts.
After two years, she made the change of focusing only on what she referred to as “elite clientele,” which included “high-income earners” and “high-level entrepreneurs.”
“I stopped posting on Facebook, began marketing myself on podcasts, interview appearances, and on Mighty Networks, a community platform for brands,” said Pitts for CNBC. ”My current product offering starts at $15,000 for a group coaching membership and extends to over $200,000 a year for exclusive, one-to-one coaching. I am much more selective about who I work with.”
