CashApp Founder Bob Lee Reportedly Identified As Fatal Stabbing Victim

According to NBC News, Bob Lee was reportedly killed during a fatal stabbing on Tuesday (April 4) near downtown San Francisco, CA. Per the city’s police department, officers responded to a report of a stabbing at approximately 2:35 a.m.

The 43-year-old victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his life-threatening injuries.

While authorities did not name the man, sources revealed that Lee was the victim.

As a longtime tech executive, Lee was the first CEO at Square, the digital payment company launched by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. In 2013, Lee played a pivotal role in Square’s launch of CashApp.

During the height of the pandemic, Lee worked alongside the World Health Organization (WHO) to create a COVID-19 mobile app, which led to the development of an at-home COVID-19 testing company.

Lee joined MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency and digital payments app, in 2021 as the company’s Chief Product Officer and was currently still serving in the position prior to the incident.

“Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article,” said MobileCoin CEO Joshua Goldbard. “He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”

In addition to his work with Square and MobileCoin, Lee’s LinkedIn profile revealed that he had also invested in Elon Musk’s SpaceX venture. Another tech firm that he put his money behind was the social audio app, Clubhouse.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and the San Francisco Police Department noted that the incident is currently being investigated by its homicide unit.
