A Washington, D.C. native took matters into his own hands when it came to his business.
Dante Brown is the owner of Platinum Barber Services, which he runs out of a cargo trailer, according to DC News Now. The barbershop on wheels was birthed in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Brown launched his business after he left another barbershop where he had cut hair for years.
“It was like almost reviving life, like they gave us life, it gave us hope, inspiration through all the pandemic,” he said, according to the outlet.
DC News Now also notes that the trailer-turned-one-seat barbershop has heat, air conditioning, and plumbing.
Brown’s trust in himself as an entrepreneur has paid off. Since he’s been in business, just over two years, he has seen an influx of customers and is quite booked and busy.
“I can’t stop cutting. I’m on the clock constantly. I’m constantly busy,” Brown told the outlet. “My book is extremely full. I’m booked up for the rest of this week, mostly all next week and people book me out throughout the rest of the year almost.”
He added, “I’m still in disbelief. I still think it’s a dream. I still think I need to be woken up.”
Brown’s trailer is on John McCormack Road in Northeast D.C., on the border of Catholic University.
Entrepreneurs having their business on wheels has been the wave as of late. Among them is Dr. Joanne McDougal Patterson. As previously shared by AFROTECH, she is behind the first-ever psychiatric clinic on wheels in metro Atlanta, GA.
“The idea came from me wanting to make sure that there was accessible and comfortable mental health care for the women and children in Metro Atlanta,” Patterson told Atlanta News First. “Oftentimes we hear about mental health treatment, but people don’t seek the treatment, simply because the environment is a little scary and there is a stigma and the perception of mental health is in a negative light.”
