Dionne Warwick once jokingly referred to herself as the CEO of Twitter, but now the living legend wants no part amid all the chaos that seems to be circulating around the social media platform.

When news broke in May 2023 that Tesla owner Elon Musk would be stepping down from his role as CEO of Twitter and appointing someone else, Warwick offered up her talents for the job.

Her Self-Appointed Twitter Role

“I am excited to officially take on the role as CEO of Twitter,” the “That’s What Friends Are For” crooner previously tweeted. “This has been in the works for months.”

As already reported by AfroTech, Musk stepped into the CEO position for Twitter in October 2022 shortly after his acquisition of the platform for $44 billion. However, it was later revealed that the billionaire had no intention of staying in the position for the long haul.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job,” he joked in December 2022 on Twitter. “After that, I will just run the software & servers teams.”

Recent Twitter Changes

He upheld his promise when it was announced in May 2023 via Twitter that NBCUniversal’s former chairman of global advertising and partnerships, Linda Yaccarino, would become the CEO of the platform, focusing “primarily on business operations.”

As Twitter users continue to question the future of the beloved social networking app with some even jumping over to test out new platforms such as Spill and Meta’s Threads, Warwick has seemingly responded to the uncertainty of what is to come of the platform and revoked her previous statement.

What Does The Future Hold?

“I am resigning from this position,” Warwick said in a tweet. “They’ve got too much going on here.”

What Lies Ahead?

It looks like Warwick is just the latest Twitter user looking for answers as the platform grapples with what’s next, from the abolishment of legacy verified users to news of restricting the amount of tweets that can be fired off.

Only time will tell what’s next for those in the Twitter-sphere!
