Fat Joe And Mayor Link Up To Auction Their Favorite Air Force 1 Sneakers For Virgil Abloh's 'Post Modern' Scholarship Fund

Boardroom reports that the two are set to donate pairs of their all-time favorite Air Force 1s. The sneakers will be auctioned on Whatnot — a livestream shopping platform and marketplace — and 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the fund. In total, there are five giveaways and five auctions.

“I decided to go with two of my favorites, Terror Squad Air Forces for the auction,” Fat Joe told the outlet. “It was a tough decision, but it’s going toward a much more important cause and supporting Virgil’s scholarship fund. Only the best for Virgil, and we’ll do whatever we can to keep pushing his goals forward in his memory.” 

The act of kindness is to continue shedding light on what Abloh created for the next generation of fashion designers. Following his $1 million pledge in 2020, his mission continues to live on through those inspired by his initiative. 

“Virgil led by design and by example, so this was a no-brainer. We as cultural figures and influencers, it’s our job to help raise as much money as we can, so that Virgil’s scholarship program can be as successful as possible,” Mayor said.

As previously reported by AfroTech, Abloh’s fund was created in partnership with the Fashion Scholarship Fund to support the next generation of Black fashion industry leaders.

“I’ve always been passionate about giving the next generation of students the same foundation for success that was given to me,” the late Abloh shared in 2020, according to ELLE. “That’s why I’m excited to launch this Fund in partnership with the FSF, which has an outstanding track record of helping college students achieve successful careers.”

Recently, a new partnership between Harlem’s Fashion Row and LVMH North America came together to carry on his mission of supporting emerging Black designers.

“LVMH is committed to having a positive impact in our communities and realizing the path forward set by Virgil Abloh and others who helped foster equity and inclusion in the fashion industry by supporting and building a pool of diverse creative talent,” said Corey Smith, Vice President, Diversity & Inclusion, LVMH, according to a press release.”
