Several months after appearing on his cousin Baby Keem’s debut album, Kendrick Lamar has announced his official comeback in one of the most unpredictable ways.

K-dot chose to pop out of hiding by quoting and responding to a tweet from a little over two months ago. Seemingly exhausted from the wait for Kendrick’s next album, Twitter user @raptalksk suggested the rapper’s absence meant his retirement, tweeting “Kendrick Lamar is officially retired.”

Emerging from what seems to be the shadows of his successful music career, the GRAMMY award-winning artist and Pulitzer prize winner used the tweet from February to let the world know he is still here.

Attaching a link to the mysterious oklama.com, Kendrick brought back the cryptic website he initially tweeted out on August 21, 2022. It holds a file folder that reads “nu thoughts.” The folder contains a letter to fans describing his process and his upcoming return to music. Since then, an official statement has been added to a black folder that announced his forthcoming album.

 

New K-Dot Music On The Way

With the excitement from the website’s information, Black Twitter went up into an exciting uproar about the possibility of new music. The news was also shared via Kendrick’s Instagram page from pgLang – a creative service company founded by Kendrick and Dave Free.

According to the company’s website, it “speaks different languages and breaks formats for the curious.”

The statement read, “The following statement was released today by oklama, through his company, pgLang, at 11:00 am PT in Los Angeles, CA,”

Under the short and direct announcement, fans found out the next album would be titled “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” with a release date of May 13, 2022.

To make sure no one purported any false information around this highly-anticipated album drop, the press release continued with, “All factual information for this release will come directly from this source only.”

But A Random Tweet, Tho?

Still, what’s up with the random reply to a two-month-old tweet?

The Compton, CA native remains one of the most non-descript artists of this time. Performing and releasing music at his own pace, Kendrick could have been consumed with the final touches of his return since most of the world last saw him on the Super Bowl stage.

No matter his peculiar actions around the tweet, the exact reasoning didn’t matter to self-proclaimed “hip-hop and music enthusiast” @raptalksk. Based on his response, he was stunned that K-dot used his tweet to announce a return to music.

The upcoming album will follow Kendrick’s award-winning album “DAMN,” which celebrated its fifth anniversary earlier this month.
