Killer Mike and T.I. seem to still be about their business.
According to reports, the rappers planned to re-open Bankhead Seafood, a historic Atlanta restaurant, in 2020 after buying the business, name, trademark, and recipes the year before. However, COVID-19 cut its plans short due to a nationwide wave of shutdowns. Now, it appears T.I. and Killer Mike are keeping their word and will re-open the restaurant that holds sentimental value for many in Atlanta.
“It’s been a part of my life as long as I’ve been on earth,” Killer Mike told WSB-TV Atlanta. “If you’re writing a show or a book about Michael Render and his family, (Bankhead Seafood) would definitely be one of the characters.”
T.I And Killer Mike To Restore The Vision
The historic Bankhead Seafood has serviced the people of Atlanta for 50 years before closing its doors in 2018. According to 11Alive, Helen Harden made the decision to close shop because it became increasingly difficult to keep the store afloat.
“I felt like I wasn’t doing my customers a good service when they wait a little longer than they used to have,” Harden told 11Alive.
Now, T.I and Killer Mike are restoring Harden’s vision. According to the Atlanta Black Star, the pair filed a building permit application with the city of Atlanta on Dec. 7, “which would allow the space to undergo almost $2 million worth of renovations.”
This follows seven months after an initial filing for a special administrative permit application with the Atlanta Department of City Planning, the outlet also reports.
What To Expect On The Menu
While the opening date of the restaurants remains unknown, customers will soon be able to experience nostalgia as the classic menu items will make a comeback. Bankhead Seafood goers can look forward to the famous fried fish and some new items including grilled and steamed options and alcoholic beverages.
The rappers will also be adding their own personal treats to the menu which will include Killer Mike’s aunt and grandmother’s biscuit recipe, T.I’s lemonade, and perhaps his sweet potato pie recipe.
