The “queen of hip hop soul,” Mary J. Blige, has maintained longevity in the entertainment industry for decades. With eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards, a 2012 Golden Globe nomination, and five American Music Awards, the legendary songstress has surpassed iconic status. Now, Blige has added her own wine collection to her impressive resume.
According to Black Enterprise, the 49-year-old entertainer teamed up with the Fantinel Winery to create Sun Goddess Wines, a collection of high-end limited-time wines. Blige took to her Instagram to announce the news to fans.
The Sun Goddess Wine collection features two of her favorite summer wines — a Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.
“[Creating a wine] wasn’t something that was originally at the top of my head,” Blige told ESSENCE. “One of [Maxwell’s] friends happened to be Marco Fantinel, from the Fantinel Winery. I was drinking white wine with them all night long, [the Fantinels] asked, ‘do you want to do a wine?’ I didn’t even hesitate.”
Blige credits her sister for helping her create the name for her wine collection.
“When I hang out with my sister and we’ll [vacation] to an island or something like that, I hang out in the sun a little longer than everybody else,” Blige told ESSENCE. “So other people are getting burned and I’m not. My sister will say, ‘I’m not messing with Sun Goddess today. I’m out of here!’ She gave me the name and I ran with it.”
