North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) is the largest HBCU for the 10th year in a row, BET reports.

The school website states 13,883 students were enrolled for the 2023-2024 academic school year. There were 400 more students in comparison to the previous academic year.

“The new student body headcount, up nearly 3% from 2022-23, is believed to maintain North Carolina A&T’s status as the nation’s largest historically Black college or university (HBCU) for the 10th consecutive year,” the school said in an article on its website. “Enrollment totals for the past three years have also made it the largest HBCU ever and have contributed significantly to North Carolina’s position as having the highest HBCU enrollment of any state in America.”

The increase of its student body population is aided by its faculty and graduate students who have shaped the undergraduate experience. Additionally, per the article, support services and financial assistances have helped to empower students and increase the school’s retention by 5.3%.

The growth of NC A&T, based in Greensboro, is expected to strengthen its influence as a doctoral, research, and land-grant university, according to university leaders.

“The ongoing expansion of our university is providing outstanding educational opportunities for high-achieving students who increasingly seek admission to the university,” Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. said in the article. “Forty-thousand students sought admission to A&T this year, continuing a growth in applications that is among the strongest of any traditional university in America.”

He added, “We will continue to plan for and invest in critical systems, such as university housing, classroom spaces and campus safety, to accommodate growth in enrollment, academic programs, research and personnel.”

Beyond its direct efforts on campus, NC A&T is also benefiting the state. A 36-page study published by the university claims that its impact on North Carolina exceeds $2.4 billion.
