Chicago-based multicultural haircare company, ORS™ Haircare is joining the crowd of businesses stepping up to help provide relief to those affected by the wave of COVID-19.
In response to Black beauty professionals who were displaced by the pandemic, ORS™ Haircare has created a fund called ORS Cares – a multi-tiered support initiative that provides grants to licensed, salon-based hairstylists across the country who has experienced any economic hardships due to the public health crisis, Black Enterprise reports.
ORS™Cares shows great initiative in terms of being a pillar of support for Black haircare professionals during this time.
“For more than two decades now in the business of beauty, ORS™Haircare has honored and respected the unique struggle of Black hairstylists and salon professionals—and they’re in our thoughts especially at this challenging time,” the company said in a press statement. “But beyond merely the struggle of being independent businesspersons, giving back is also who we are as a company. It’s what we stand for, and in extraordinary times like these the onus is on all of us to invest in each other and lift each other up, and that’s what ORS™Cares is really all about. If we don’t do it, then people get left behind.”
The ORS™Cares Relief Fund has a starting investment of $100,000, which can be used for any purpose by beauty professionals.
According to Hype Hair, ORS™Cares will be making direct contributions to local community organizations such as My Block, My Hood, My City, which has raised and provided funds for small Black businesses in underserved areas in Chicago recently impacted by the uprisings.
The new initiative will also provide charitable product donations and contributions to select Black community organizations, Hype Hair reports.
