Patrick Mahomes’ junior year at Texas Tech would be his final one. It proved to be a good year. In the 2016 season he threw 18 touchdowns in September alone, and averaged 442.5 passing yards per game. His stats only got better as the season progressed, eventually tying the NCAA record for single game passing yards thanks to an impressive 734 yards. When the season ended, Mahomes led the country with 421 yards per game, 5,052 passing yards, 53 touchdowns, he was responsible for the most points (318) and total offense yards at 5,312.

The 2017 NFL Draft
He later went on to have private workouts or team visits with 18 teams — the most for any of the 2017 prospects. 2018 saw Mahomes enjoying more action on the field after the Chiefs traded the previous starting quarterback, Alex Smith, to the then Washington Redskins (now Commanders).
