Many people would consider Pharrell Williams a creative genius, and the music producer is taking that notion and putting it into the community.
Williams has partnered with public relations firm Edelman to launch Mighty Dream, a new creative agency.
Bigger Than Your Average Dream
According to the press release, the collaboration will work to help solve challenges that people of color face through product development, policy change, and social action campaigns.
“If someone asks me what inspires me, I always say, ‘That which is missing.’” It’s the clearest path to being additive to society and finding new solutions for real problems,” said Williams of the partnership in a press release. “Mighty Dream aims to create what’s missing – in creativity, in advocacy, in society.”
Holistic Investment
Williams will serve as the agency’s founder and co-chair. His leadership will oversee a diverse staff of creatives poised to deliver structural solutions to systemic issues, including mental health, creditworthiness, homeownership, and food deserts.
Its staffing model will extend opportunity through education, apprenticeship, and employment, focusing on partnerships with HBCUs. Edelman U.S. CEO Lisa Osborne Ross, who will serve as co-chair, agrees with the necessity of investing in communities of color and driving change.
“Edelman has long been a steward of impact in society and a student of what it takes to drive cultural, structural, and policy change via the concerted effort of the private sector,” Osborne Ross said in a press statement.
The Missing Ingredient
Mighty Dream is poised to be more than an agency based on rhetoric. The goal is to be a facilitator of trust in communities and create “what’s missing.”
“Mighty Dream is built for tangible, real-world outputs – and a direct continuation of the work we have shepherded to build trust, inspire social action, and drive policy change. For Black and Brown communities, it’s a creative advocacy agency that’s for us, by us,” Osborne Ross continued in a press statement.
Making Progress
Mighty Dream is the most recent equitable investment project for Williams. The music producer is also behind Black Ambition, an organization designed to motivate change through the lens of volunteerism and venture capital.
The newly established agency is seeking creative talent and clients who want to make a difference relative to its mission. Mighty Dream made Todd Triplett, former Head of Creative Lab at TikTok, its first hire.
