Rick Ross admits that even bosses make mistakes, but there’s power in holding yourself accountable.
Following reports that his family business, Boss Wings Enterprises LLC, is under investigation by the U.S. Labor Department, the 46-year-old emcee took to social media to address the claims.
The company has been fined more than $100,000 for alleged violations at five of its Wingstop locations located in the state of Mississippi.
Accountability Is Key
“When you’re running a business, there will be mistakes,” said “The Boss” emcee via a video shared on his Instagram Story. “But as the biggest boss, you never make the same mistake twice. You see, accountability — taking accountability is big when you the biggest. And remember this: most successful people don’t take stumbling as a setback, but actually a stepping stone to greater things, ya heard me? Let’s be great.”

As previously reported by AfroTech, the Labor Department reported that Boss Wings Enterprises LLC allegedly made employees pay for uniforms, safety training background checks, and cash register shortages. Per the claims, this caused the Wingstop employees’ wages to drop below the $7.25 federal minimum wage.
The Claims
A further investigation revealed that the department was able to recover $51,674 in back wages for 244 workers in the amount of $62,753 in civil money penalties.
“Restaurant industry employees work heard, often for low wages, and many depend on every dollar earned to make ends meet,” said Audrey Hall, Wage and Hour Division Director in Jackson, MS. “The law prevents Boss Wing Enterprises LLC from shifting operating costs to workers by deducting the costs of uniforms, cash registers or training expenses, or to allow a worker’s pay to fall below the minimum wage rate.”
In 2016, Ross owned a total of 10 Wingstop locations along the east coast through his Boss Wings Enterprises LLC, which is owned and operated by his mother, Tommie Roberts, and his sister, Tawanda Roberts.
