Huawei, a Chinese telecommunications hardware company, has demoted two of its employees by one rank and cut their pay after the two tweeted a New Year’s post on the company’s Twitter account from an iPhone. “Happy #2019 from all of us at Huawei,” the now-removed January 1 post said. “Our resolution this new year is to give you more reasons to connect to those you care about.” At the bottom of the post, next to the date and time, “Twitter for iPhone” can be seen. Apple is a well-known competitor of Huawei and execs at the company did not take an iPhone being used for the company’s branding too well. Huawei Corporate Senior Vice President Chen Lifang said “the incident caused damage to the Huawei brand” in a memo seen by Reuters. In the memo, the company called the mistake an issue with procedure and management. The two employees involved are receiving 5,000 yuan ($728.27) pay cuts to their monthly salaries.
