One common argument among sports fans is the GOAT (greatest of all time) conversation. When it comes to the NFL, one of the consistent names that comes to mind is former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. However, top-performing players do not start and stop with the leading position. They need wide receivers to throw to, and you can’t ignore Terrell Owens when looking down the history of top-performing athletes at that position. The NFL lists Owens as the No. 6 greatest wide receiver of all time. He had 1,078 receptions, 15,934 yards, and 153 touchdowns during his professional football career. While his high-performing career did not yield him a Super Bowl championship, he was inducted as a 2018 Football Hall of Fame class member. Here’s to breaking the stigma when it comes to Black men and mental health. Ahead of World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10, former NFL player turned therapist Jay Barnett — a survivor of two suicide attempts — has doubled down on his commitment to changing the narrative when it comes to Black men and their mental health. “ It wasn’t until after football that I realized I needed help. I discovered that my desire to play was from an unhealthy place. I wanted to play because I wanted to prove to my father I could be everything that he wasn’t. Football was how I coped and when I couldn’t play — I felt useless.” To help others get the help they need, Barnett recently teamed up to moderate an open conversation...
Lil Yachty and Terrell Owens are back to investing, and this time around they’re getting in on the $1.5 trillion wellness industry that’s booming with innovation. A press release reports that PlantFuel® — the scientifically focused plant-based wellness company — announced that both Yachty and Owens have made strategic investments in the emerging sports nutrition brand debuting on the market this month. With support from these two Hip-Hop and sports figures, respectively, the brand aims to breakthrough into the nutritional retail space. “I’m super excited about my new venture with PlantFuel,” Yachty shared in a statement. “It’s brands like PlantFuel that inspire and allow me to stay actively involved creatively beyond just investing.” The new investment in PlantFuel marks Yachty’s second deal ever with his recently-launched venture capital (VC) fund, Scoop Investments. Prior to this news, AfroTech reported that the rapper previously invested in Jewish dating app Lox Club, alongside...
