It’s one thing to have friends who support your work as an artist, but another thing for them to be the person you can lean on in times of need.

For R&B singer Tank, that friend has been Jamie Foxx. During a time when he wanted to quit music and literally had nowhere to go, the renowned actor stepped in and offered up his home to his good friend.

The Support of A Good Friend

“I’m standing in Jamie Foxx’s kitchen, him and his sister Deidra,” Tank recalled. “And he’s like, ‘What’s going on?’ I said, ‘I ain’t doing nothing, I’m about to go home, I’m about to do the church thing, and move back into my mama’s house.'”

In a previous episode of R&B Money with hosts Tank and fellow R&B crooner J. Holiday, the pair were joined by Foxx for the debut of the podcast supported by Charlamagne Tha God’s Black Effect network. While appearing as a guest on Drink Champs, Tank further explained how if Foxx didn’t step in, there would be no “Sex, Love, & Pain,” the critically acclaimed third studio album by the Wisconsin native.

No Other Option

“He’s like, ‘You can’t go home, no, you can’t,'” Tank explained, sharing that Foxx was wondering how he would gain inspiration if he were to walk away from music. “His sister said, ‘Ain’t no way you’re going home, you ain’t going nowhere, we’re gonna fight this.’ At this time, I’m kind of homeless. [Foxx] said, ‘This is what you’re gonna do: You’re gonna use my studio, and you’re going to live in my house until you figure it out.'”

Thank goodness he did. Today, Tank is a thriving and successful musician.
