Black women in Georgia will receive guaranteed monthly income to improve their mental health and address the racial wealth gap. Yahoo News reports , the In Her Hands program will grant 650 Black women below the federal poverty line $850 in monthly cash with no conditions attached for two years. In Her Hands will become one of the largest guaranteed income pilot programs in the U.S distributing over $13 million in funding by early 2022. “Black women are among the most likely groups to experience cash shortfalls that make covering basic needs difficult. This isn’t the result of poor choices; it’s the result of pervasive economic insecurity that has the sharpest impacts on women and communities of color,” Hope Wollensack, executive director of the GRO Fund, said in a release, according to Yahoo News. “Guaranteed income is a step toward creating a more just and equitable economy.”

Health disparities are prevalent in Black and brown communities due to the forces of economic inequities and medical bias. Google is lending its hand to provide medical solutions for these communities by supporting six researchers with $300,000 in Fitbit devices and services to spearhead their research for underrepresented communities as a part of their Fitbit Health Equity Research Initiative. Fitbit devices are revolutionizing the digital health field by pooling information that can fill in the gaps for medical research. The devices can address the concerns of medical issues plaguing Black and Brown communities such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and mental health. You’re never too young to develop financial literacy skills! According to Black Business, 11-year-old Caden Harris has taken in tons of knowledge when it comes to the financial sector, and now he is working to help others do the same. At the tender age of seven, thanks to the support of his parents, Caden launched his very first business. By age eight, he had written his first book and now, in the double-digits, he’s purchased a 54-seat passenger bus. His goal is to raise funds in order to transform the bus into a traveling mobile unit to teach financial literacy to students at local schools. This is not anything new for Caden, who continuously gets tapped by local schools, youth church groups, and Boys & Girls Clubs, and has also already created products to teach children financial literacy. This HBCU graduate went from intern to owner! According to Black Business , April Ross is an Alabama State University graduate and the new owner of WJCN TV-33, a local television station based in LaGrange, Georgia. While attending the Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Ross worked as an intern at WJCN before ultimately taking a position as a production assistant and later a reporter. Ross would later go on to work as a reporter for a CBS affiliate, WRBL News-3, where she says one incident led her to the vision of owning her own t elevision station. In 2017, Ross encountered a situation where a deputy sheriff had been shot and quickly realized that there were no reporters around to cover the story. “My news reporter instincts took over and in the absence of any TV news outlets here to report on it, I covered it on Facebook Live, which helped my social media presence to grow in excess of 15,000 followers,” said Ross in an interview with ASU News. “This was the catalyst...
